This year’s Columbia County Fair will include a special celebration of the history of the School Queens Competition and Fair organizers are looking for all who have participated in the past to be a part of it.
Since 1937, the School Queen Competition at the Columbia County Fair has been a rite of passage for senior girls. Each of the county’s public high schools chooses a standout candidate to represent them and compete for the title and top prize of $500.
A number of people have shaped the event since its inception, but perhaps none more so than Muriel Faxon. She has been an integral part of this tradition for more than 20 years, giving of her time, her talents, and especially her heart to its planning and staging. Mrs Faxon has announced her plans to retire following this year’s Fair and in her honor, the CCAS will be celebrating the competition and her many years of devoted service.
“Muriel Faxon has dedicated herself to the School Queens , and her hard work ensures that the event goes off flawlessly every time” said Fair Manager Eric Barnes. “She is one example of the many people who come together to make this Fair happen each year, just because they love it so much. We are deeply grateful for Muriel’s considerable contributions.”
The Board of Directors of the Columbia County Agricultural Society would like to invite every woman who has participated as a contestant or judge in the School Queen competition over the years to be part of this year’s special ceremony, which will take place on Friday, August 29 at 6:00PM at the North Gate Entertainment Barn. If you have participated in the competition at any time in the past, please contact the Fair Office by filling out the survey at https://forms.gle/PBnVwu65qRoz8kuW8. If you were a judge for this event, please give the Fair office a call at 518-444-3247. Questions may be directed to info@columbiafair.com .
