A beloved tradition at the Columbia County Fair since 1937, the School Queens competition will take place once again Friday, September 4, at 6:00pm at the Northgate Stage.
Young women entering their senior year in high school have been chosen by each of the county’s public high schools to compete for the title and top prize of $500; all others receive $300 each. The newly designated Queen will appear in the Firefighters Parade the following day, Saturday, September 5.
Here are the the young women representing their respective school districts in this year’s School Queen event:
Mikailyn Shuhart, New Lebanon
From New Lebanon High is Mikailyn Shuhart, the daughter of Heather Vooris and Kyle Shuhart. Mikailyn’s favorite subject is English and she enjoys playing volleyball and softball as well as participating in her school’s choir. She spends summer working at her local summer camp.
Bailey McShane, Chatham
Bailey McShane is representing Chatham High. She is the daughter of Frank and Samantha McShane and her favorite high school subject is Ceramics. Bailey loves music and is active in the school choir, band, and jazz band ensembles. She also finds time to volunteer in her community.
Germantown Central’s School Queen is McKayla Colwell, the daughter of Rebecca Canning and Edward Colwell. Cosmetology is her favorite subject in school and she plays volleyball and softball. She is looking forward to a special program this fall which will give her a head start on earning an Associates Degree.
Tisi Bishop, Hudson
Tisi Bishop has been chosen to represent Hudson High School. She is the daughter of Anna and Alwyn Lewis. Her favorite school subject is Band, but cheerleading and National Honor Society are also highlights of her academic life. Tisi describes herself as a nature lover and aspiring baker.
Tori Cutler, Ichabod Crane
Tori Cutler is from Ichabod Crane. The daughter of Ruth Rivenburg and Ronald Cutler, Tori favors Biology and loves pep rallies, spirit week, and Friday night football. In her spare time she plays and coaches volleyball and skis.
Gracie Sheak, Taconic Hills
Taconic Hill’s candidate is Gracie Sheak. She is the daughter of Amy Sheak and Adam Klein. Gracie counts music as her favorite school subject, and is active in theatre, choir, and band, where she plays the trombone. She is also a member of the Future Farmers of America.
