This year’s Columbia County School Queens will take center stage at the Columbia County Fairgrounds on Friday, August 30, at 6:00PM. Each year one candidate is chosen area High Schools to take part in this competition, The five contestants participate in individual interviews prior to the event, and appear together on the stage of North Gate Entertainment Barn during the Fair to answer questions from veteran host Muriel Faxon.
Oliana DeLuca is representing Chatham High School this year. Oliana is the daughter of Jessie and Jason DeLuca of Ghent. She is on the Varsity Soccer Team and enjoys her classes in sociology, art, and chemistry. A National Honors Society member, in her free time she enjoys music, walks, and cooking.
Taconic Hill’s representative is Jasmine Urrutia. Jasmine is the daughter of German Urrutia and Martha Parilla of Philmont. Jasmine’s favorite subject in school is English. She is on the cheer squad and enjoys theatre, singing, and dancing. Most of all, Jasmine says she loves time with her family, helping them wherever she can.
Abigail McCagg is the pick from Ichabod Crane. Abigail is the daughter of Erica and Scott McCagg. Her favorite subject in school is Anatomy and Physiology and she is on the Varsity Volleyball Team. Hobbies include hiking, gardening, and cooking but Abigail also makes time to tutor middle school students.
New Lebanon’s Mary Madeleine York will represent her school. Madeleine is the daughter of Casey and Jessica York. Her favorite high school subject is physics. She serves as her class’s President, as she has done since the 7th grade and is a member of the Varsity Soccer Team. Madeleine’s interest in cheerleading has taken her to competitions at the national level, and the Varsity swimmer serves as a swim instructor and lifeguard.
Moriah Walker will represent Hudson High. Moriah is the daughter of Larry and Lakia Walker. Moriah’s favorite subject is English Language Arts. She is Vice President of Hudson High’s Class of 2025 and enjoys cheerleading and basketball. In her spare time she volunteers, works with kids, and helps out with her parents’ restaurant business.
The 183rd Columbia County Fair is located off Route 66 in Chatham, New York. Opening day is Wednesday, August 28, at noon. The Fair – “always runs over Labor Day”, and concludes on Monday, September 2. General Admission is $15 and includes parking and all entertainment. Daily hours are Wednesday: noon to 11PM, Thursday – Monday: 10AM – 11PM. Seniors Day and Youth Day is Wednesday with special pricing at $5.00 for ALL patrons. Youth under 18 and active military with ID or in uniform are admitted free that day. Children 12 and under are always free.
